Comox Harbour water advisory lifted after sewage leak

The Comox Valley Regional District has lifted the water quality advisory for the Comox Harbour foreshore following a sewage leak at the Comox Pump Station on May 26.

Recent water sampling conducted on August 24 showed Enterococcus bacteria levels well below the safety guidelines established by Island Health. Testing indicated levels ranging from less than 1.0 to 9.0 CFU per 100 millilitres, significantly lower than the threshold of 35 CFU per 100 millilitres required for safe swimming and marine recreational activities.

Sediment testing performed throughout June and July also confirmed no residual risk to the area. With the advisory lifted, all marine recreational activities may resume in the previously affected foreshore. The regional district expressed gratitude to the K’ómoks First Nation, local businesses, and harbour users for their cooperation during the recovery process.
