Compañía Catalejo launches folklore and shadow theater project for children
The Compañía Catalejo has launched “Palabras cantadas al viento,” an itinerant project designed to promote poetic folklore and literacy in early childhood. In collaboration with JUNJI Los Ríos and funded by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, the initiative uses shadow theater and music to foster language development in young children.
The project began in Valdivia and aims to visit educational units in each of the 12 communes within the Los Ríos region. The performances incorporate local flora and fauna to engage children through visual and auditory storytelling, helping to develop oral language, memory, and emotional expression. Additionally, the program includes training for mediators of the National Reading Plan.
