Compagnia Krypton performs Pirandello adaptation in Calabria

The Compagnia Krypton is presenting a new adaptation of Luigi Pirandello’s “La patente,” titled “U picciu,” across various locations in Calabria, including Badolato and Filadelfia. Directed by Fulvio Cauteruccio, the production features Rosario Chiarchiaro in the lead role of the “jettatore” (the outcast).

The performance reinterprets the 1911 novella through a lens that combines Sicilian tradition with contemporary themes such as artificial intelligence and modern social intolerance. Cauteruccio describes the work as a tragicomedy that uses southern linguistic nuances to address issues like post-capitalism and hypocritical social norms.

The production is a co-production with the Campania Teatro Festival 2025 and is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Calabria Region, and local municipalities.
