Compagnie nationale de transport launches in Gabon

The Gabonese Council of Ministers has approved the operational launch of the Compagnie nationale de transport (CNT), a new public operator formed through the merger of SOGATRA and Trans’Urb. The company will begin operations with a fleet of 149 vehicles, including 125 buses, 12 tankers, five semi-trailers, and one Canter truck.

The rollout will occur in two phases. The first phase focuses on interurban transport, connecting Libreville to provincial capitals and economic hubs such as Lambaréné, Mouila, Lébamba, Tchibanga, Makokou, Oyem, and Bitam. The second phase will introduce urban transport services in Greater Libreville, featuring nine lines, 20 ticket sales points, and 300 designated stops.

The launch of the CNT marks the end of free public transportation. A new tiered pricing structure will be implemented, offering various subscription options such as Social, Student, Urban, and Family passes, alongside daily or single-use tickets. Interurban fares will be based on distance. Additionally, the company plans to digitize payments and implement real-time vehicle tracking via the ‘Gabon Mobilités’ digital solution. All existing employee contracts from the merged entities will be maintained without interruption.
