Companies rehire staff after failed AI automation attempts

Several global companies are rehiring employees previously dismissed to be replaced by artificial intelligence. Reports indicate that organizations are finding AI technology fails to deliver expected results, often requiring significantly more human supervision than anticipated. These systems have struggled to replicate critical skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and institutional knowledge.

Ford is a notable example, having rehired 350 veteran engineers to correct quality failures in its AI systems that resulted in substantial financial losses. Reinstated employees are reportedly seeking salary increases and guarantees against future algorithmic displacement.

In a separate legal development in Spain, the High Court of Justice of Madrid upheld a collective redundancy process involving automation. The ruling clarified that automation serves as a valid cause for dismissal when tied to a documented change in the production model and proven economic losses, rather than being used as a standalone justification for termination.
