SMILE PRO technology offers advanced refractive vision correction

SMILE PRO is an advanced, minimally invasive laser procedure designed to correct myopia and astigmatism by modifying the shape of the cornea. Utilizing the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser, the procedure creates a thin tissue portion called a lenticule within the cornea, which is then removed through a small incision. Unlike traditional LASIK, this method does not require the creation of a corneal flap.

Compared to standard SMILE procedures, SMILE PRO offers significant technical improvements. The VISUMAX 800 features a laser application speed approximately four times faster than previous models, reducing surgery time and the duration the eye must be stabilized. Additionally, the technology includes features like 'centrallyne' for surgical alignment and 'oculines' for astigmatism axis correction, which help account for micro-rotations of the eye during the procedure.

Medical experts emphasize that suitability depends on individual eye health, including corneal thickness, shape, pupil size, and the stability of the refractive error. While the technology offers increased precision and reduced recovery burdens, such as lower risks of dry eye and pain, a comprehensive examination is required to determine if a patient is a candidate for SMILE or SMILE PRO.
