Compass Pathways prepares FDA submission for psilocybin therapy
Compass Pathways is preparing to complete a rolling FDA submission for COMP360, a synthetic psilocybin treatment for treatment-resistant depression, by the end of this quarter. CEO Kabir Nath stated at the STAT Summit in Boston that the company intends to adopt a measured rollout strategy, noting that early negative experiences could jeopardize the broader psychedelic medicine sector.
Clinical trial data indicates that approximately 25% of patients showed a clinically meaningful response after a single six-hour supervised session, with that figure increasing to 40% following a second dose. Long-term data suggests benefits can last up to a year after two or three administrations.
To manage safety, the company is developing a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) and investing in provider training. Compass Pathways is also engaging with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to establish reimbursement mechanisms for the required clinical monitoring during administration. The company aims for a potential commercial launch early next year.
