Compensar expands prepaid medicine offerings in Colombia

Compensar has expanded its prepaid medicine offerings in Colombia with the launch of the ‘Plan Óptimo’, adding to its existing ‘Plan Ideal’. This move responds to a growing market for Voluntary Health Plans (PVS), which includes prepaid medicine, complementary care, and health insurance.

According to the Colombian Association of Integral Medicine Companies (ACEMI), revenue from companies offering PVS has grown significantly, rising from COP 2.5 trillion in 2010 to an estimated COP 14.5 trillion in 2025. ACEMI projects household spending on these plans will reach COP 16.5 trillion by 2026.

Data from the National Quality of Life Survey indicates that the number of Colombians with some form of Voluntary Health Plan grew by 18% between 2020 and 2024, rising from 1.8 million to 2.2 million people. Notably, 66.5% of PVS users belong to households earning between one and five minimum monthly wages.
