Competition Commission of India seeks new members to fill vacancies
The Indian government has invited applications to fill two member positions at the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced that eligible candidates can apply until September 28.
Appointees will serve for five years or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first, receiving a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 5 lakh. Candidates must possess at least 15 years of professional experience and expertise in fields such as economics, law, finance, technology, or competition policy.
These vacancies are critical for the regulator's operations. Following the resignation of member Anil Agarwal and the upcoming term end of member Deepak Anurag, the Commission will be left with only two members: Chairperson Ravneet Kaur and Sweta Kakkad. This reduction in strength poses a risk to the Commission's ability to meet the minimum quorum of three members required by the Competition Act, 2002, to conduct meetings and make decisions on merger and anti-trust matters.
