Composer Nick Glennie-Smith dies at 74

British composer, conductor, and keyboardist Nick Glennie-Smith has died at the age of 74. He passed away peacefully on August 16, surrounded by family at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Glennie-Smith was a prominent figure in Hollywood film scoring, frequently collaborating with Hans Zimmer as part of the Remote Control Productions team. His notable credits include work on ‘The Lion King’, ‘Crimson Tide’, ‘Transformers’, ‘X-Men: First Class’, and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’. He also shared composing duties for Michael Bay’s ‘The Rock’ and composed scores for films such as ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’, ‘We Were Soldiers’, and ‘Secretariat’.

Before his success in film music, the London-born musician began his career as a keyboard player, performing or recording with legendary artists including Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Phil Collins, and Tina Turner. His filmography also extends to various roles in productions such as ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Deadpool’, and ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’.
