Compromís criticizes Castelló government over language and security concerns
The Compromís municipal group in Castelló has raised two distinct criticisms against Mayor Begoña Carrasco’s administration regarding cultural representation and public safety.
Regarding the Magdalena 2027 festivals, Compromís denounced a new contracting tender for concerts that lacks a mandatory clause to guarantee performances in Valencian. The coalition claims the current wording allows promoters to decide whether to include Valencian music, potentially repeating the absence of the language seen in the 2026 festivities. Compromís representatives requested the modification of the file to include a minimum requirement for Valencian-language music to protect local artists and linguistic heritage.
Separately, Compromís has called for the inclusion of specific training for the Local Police to detect and prevent violent radicalization from the far right. This demand follows the late 2025 arrest of three suspected members of a neo-Nazi terrorist cell linked to the supremacist organization The Base. The political group criticized the local government for a perceived lack of public condemnation regarding the cell, which was dismantled in a joint operation involving the National Police and Europol.
