Spanish schools face political debate over classroom climate control

Various Spanish regional governments and political groups are addressing the urgent need for climate control in schools to combat rising temperatures in classrooms.

In Toledo, the PSOE has criticized Mayor Carlos Velázquez, alleging a lack of political will and concrete economic commitments to climatize 16 local schools. Similarly, in La Palma, the PSOE has expressed frustration with the Cabildo for failing to implement a climate adaptation roadmap for public schools despite a unanimous agreement made over two years ago.

In Palma, the political landscape has shifted as Vox announced it will now support school climatization measures, reversing a previous vote against initiatives proposed by the PSOE and Més. Vox previously argued that the proposals were politically motivated and exceeded municipal competencies.

In Castilla-La Mancha, the regional government has completed climatization works at the CRA Ribera del Júcar, including the installation of solar panels at the Las Eras section to ensure energy self-sufficiency and thermal comfort for students and staff.
