Compromís demands Castelló restore humanitarian aid to UNRWA

The Compromís municipal group in Castelló has called on Mayor Begoña Carrasco to reinstate municipal aid for Palestinian refugees. The group is demanding the return of a 60,000 euro contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), a fund that was part of the 2023 municipal budget but was not renewed by the current administration composed of PP and Vox.

Compromís spokesperson Ignasi Garcia criticized the decision to withdraw cooperation during a period of heightened humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He noted that while the municipal government has explored alternative humanitarian aid routes, these have not matched the scale of the previous agreement with UNRWA. The group has formally requested the restoration of this subsidy in both the 2024 and 2025 budget proposals.
