Compulsion Games listed as publisher of South of Midnight on Steam

Compulsion Games appears to have finalized its separation from Xbox and Microsoft. On the Steam platform, the developer is now listed as the publisher for its title, ‘South of Midnight’, rather than Xbox Game Studios. This change was noted via SteamDB and first highlighted by indie developer Michael Klamerus.

The shift follows a broader reorganization within Microsoft’s gaming division, which included thousands of layoffs and the spinning out of several studios. While Compulsion Games is now self-publishing on Steam, the game is still listed under Microsoft Studios on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, suggesting that administrative or logistical updates for console storefronts may still be pending.

Other studios affected by recent Xbox restructuring include Double Fine, which has also become independent, as well as Undead Labs and Ninja Theory, both of which were reportedly acquired by undisclosed third-party publishers.
