Computing history milestones: Nintendo, Intel, and ATI
A retrospective look at significant milestones in computing and gaming history occurring on August 23 across different years.
In 1993, Nintendo announced a partnership with Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) for ‘Project Reality,’ a collaboration aimed at developing the successor to the Super NES. This project eventually resulted in the release of the Nintendo 64 in 1996.
In 2000, Intel reached a milestone at the Intel Developer Forum by showcasing a Pentium 4 processor that surpassed the 2 GHz threshold, utilizing the Netburst architecture to compete in the high-frequency processor market.
In 2006, ATI introduced several new models in the Radeon X1x00 GPU series. This lineup included the high-end Radeon X1950 XTX, featuring the R580+ core running at 650 MHz with GDDR4 memory, as well as the mid-range X1650 Pro and the entry-level X1300 XT.
