Comrades Marathon 100th edition to proceed despite athletics dispute
The 100th running of the Comrades Marathon is scheduled for 13 June 2027. South African Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has assured that the milestone event will proceed despite an ongoing dispute involving Athletics South Africa (ASA), KwaZulu-Natal Athletics (KZNA), and the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA).
McKenzie stated that national and provincial governments will provide necessary support, including safety certification, municipal services, traffic management, and emergency services. He emphasized that these state responsibilities are separate from the current affiliation dispute between the athletics organizations.
The 2027 race will mark the 50th running of the traditional down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, finishing at the Kings Park precinct.
