Comrades Marathon sees record demand for 2027 centenary edition
The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has reported unprecedented demand for the 2027 Centenary Comrades Marathon, which marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic ultramarathon first held in 1921.
To accommodate the surge in interest, the CMA has increased the entry cap to 28,000 athletes, making it the largest field in the event’s history. A total of 56,283 entry submissions and ballot applications were received during the entry process. Following the close of the General Ballot window, 42,802 runners applied for the remaining available spots.
The race is scheduled for Sunday, 13 June 2027, and will conclude at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park precinct in Durban. Race Director Sue Forge stated that the organization is prepared for the historic event, which is expected to draw significant participation from both local and international running communities.
