Comunes party exits Colombian Congress after election loss

The Comunes party has officially exited the Colombian Congress following the installation of a new legislative period. The political group, which originated from the FARC guerrilla movement, held 10 seats—five in the Senate and five in the House of Representatives—for two consecutive terms as stipulated by the Peace Agreement.

Following the March 8, 2026, elections, the party failed to reach the required 3% threshold, resulting in the loss of its legal status and no representation in the 2026-2030 term. Deisy Dorelly Guanaro, a victim of the FARC and president of the Federation of Victims of Terrorism, expressed support for the party's departure, stating that the era of former combatants holding seats without providing truth or reparation has ended.
