Conab expects increased bean supply and expanded grain storage investments
Conab President Silvio Porto announced that the arrival of a third bean harvest is expected to increase market availability and potentially lower prices in the coming months. Data monitored by Conab and Dieese shows that prices for beans, coffee, tomatoes, onions, and potatoes have already decreased in 20 Brazilian capitals.
Despite current price drops, Ibrafe warns that carioca bean prices could reach R$ 12 per kilogram in some regions by February 2027 due to low stocks and high field costs. Porto noted that excessive rainfall in southern states like Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul remains a point of attention for production.
Regarding infrastructure, Conab is seeking to expand its grain storage capacity. The 2027 Annual Budget Law already allocates R$ 50 million for storage investments, and the company aims to double this to R$ 100 million through a partnership with Itaipu Binacional. This expansion is intended to strengthen food stocks and reduce reliance on third-party warehouses.
