CONAF and Afro-descendant group partner for Arica ethnobotanical garden

The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) is collaborating with the Agrupación Cimarrones Afrodescendientes to develop a new ethnobotanical garden in the Las Llosyas sector of Arica.

During a visit to the Las Maitas nursery, members of the Afro-descendant group participated in activities designed to promote knowledge of native flora and regional biodiversity. The program included lectures on the coastal valley species of Arica and Parinacota, hands-on experience with plant propagation and care processes, and briefings on CONAF’s procedures for community plant distribution. The initiative aims to foster environmental education and strengthen cooperation between public institutions and social organizations to preserve natural resources.
