Wildfire emergencies trigger massive response efforts in Spain, Argentina, and Chile

Multiple regions are facing significant wildfire challenges and implementing emergency measures. In Spain, the government has extended the summer forest fire campaign until October 31 following a season of extraordinary complexity. Since January 1, Spain has recorded 8,122 forest fires affecting 275,209 hectares, resulting in 21 deaths and 70 injuries.

In Argentina, a major fire in the Formosa province has affected more than 9,000 hectares. Emergency teams have worked to contain the blaze and protect communities such as Madrugada, Rinconada, Pozo Ramón, and Isla García. Two homes in the La Madrugada community were damaged, and 30 people were assisted due to smoke inhalation.

In Chile, prevention efforts are intensifying. The Maule region has launched a CONAF employment program offering 134 positions to assist with fuel management and mitigation. Additionally, in the Coquimbo region, CONAF is deploying 100 brigadiers and 8 ground brigades to manage high risks caused by winter vegetation growth. In Galicia, Spain, the military's 'Centinela Gallego' operation concluded with 30 fire alerts after conducting thousands of patrols using drones and ground units.
