Conagra Brands reports AI is reshaping US snacking habits
Conagra Brands reports that artificial intelligence is reshaping how American consumers select snacks. According to research conducted with firm Circana, which analyzed over 53 million transactions, shoppers are increasingly using AI tools to find products that meet specific nutritional needs, such as higher protein or fiber content, rather than searching for specific brands.
This shift is driving demand for nutrient-dense, protein-focused, and bold-flavored products. Conagra noted that the snacking sector, which generates $198.2 billion in annual retail sales, is growing 1.4 times faster than the broader food market. Factors contributing to these changing habits include the rise of weight-loss drugs and a growing consumer focus on health goals.
Additionally, younger demographics like Gen Z are pushing demand for more intense flavor profiles, including sweet-and-spicy and tangy combinations. Bob Nolan, Conagra’s senior vice president of growth science, stated that traditional categories like cookies and standard salty snacks are facing pressure as consumers move toward ‘snacking for purpose’ and more personalized food choices.
