Conakry hosts 12th African conference on youth reproductive health
The 12th African Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescents and youth concluded in Conakry, Guinea, on September 5, 2026. The four-day event brought together experts, activists, civil society representatives, and youth delegates from over twenty African nations.
Discussions focused on critical challenges including gender-based violence, access to tailored health services for young people, sustainable financing, and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. The conference provided a platform for youth to voice concerns directly to decision-makers.
At the closing ceremony, the Guinean government, represented by five ministers, emphasized the importance of the conference's recommendations. Khaïté Sall, the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, called for a transition from declarations to concrete actions to support adolescent girls, young women, and women across the continent.
