Conakry to host Guinée Old School hip-hop reunion
The inaugural Guinée Old School event is scheduled to take place on October 30 and 31 in Conakry, Guinea. Organized by Mariama Ciré (Marsy Prestation) and Diaforo Core (Passi of the group Nawel Sacré), the two-day event aims to celebrate the pioneers and history of Guinean hip-hop.
Performances will be held at the Mariador Palace and the Palais du Peuple. The gathering features several iconic figures of the national rap scene, including some artists returning to the country after nearly 17 years. Moussa Mbaye, a member of the group Degg Force 3, described the event as a historic moment where major groups and legends are represented to honor the movement's heritage.
The event also includes international participation, such as Douggy Tee from the Senegalese group Positive Black Soul, who characterized the initiative as a “family reunion.” Supported by cultural institutions like FODAC, the festival seeks to preserve the collective memory of Guinean hip-hop and pass its legacy to younger generations.
