CONANI clarifies Law 136-03 reform remains in draft stage
The National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI) has clarified that the proposed reform to Law 136-03, the Code for the Protection and Fundamental Rights of Children, Adolescents and Youth, is currently a draft for consultation.
CONANI stated that the document is undergoing analysis and discussion to formulate a preliminary bill, meaning no provisions are yet final. The institution emphasized that the proposal does not contravene the constitutional values of the Dominican Republic. The process has involved more than 80 entities, including religious, social, public, and private organizations, whose contributions are being reviewed to improve the text.
Regarding family structures, CONANI explained that the draft aims to reflect the diverse realities of Dominican households to ensure protection for children regardless of their home composition.
