CONANI expands child protection program to Puerto Plata

The National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI) has expanded its intervention program for children and adolescents in street situations and child labor to the province of Puerto Plata. This expansion brings the program's coverage to five territories in the Dominican Republic, including Boca Chica, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo Este, and the Distrito Nacional.

The initiative aims to address complex rights violations caused by poverty, domestic violence, parental negligence, school dropout, and irregular migration. To manage these cases, a Technical Operative Unit (UTO) has been established. This multidisciplinary team includes CONANI, the Public Ministry, the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1, the National Police, Tourist Police (POLITUR), DIGESETT, the National Health Service (SNS), Comedores Económicos, Supérate, and the General Directorate of Migration (DGM).

The unit will conduct direct interventions in public spaces, protection workshops, and follow up on reports related to vulnerable minors.
