CONAPACH joins development of Chile's national seafood consumption policy

The National Confederation of Artisanal Fishermen (CONAPACH) is participating in the development of Chile’s first National Policy for the Responsible Consumption of Seafood. This initiative was presented during the first Technical Working Group for the Promotion of Seafood Consumption, convened by the Undersecretary of Fisheries.

CONAPACH leadership, including President Zoila Bustamante, emphasized the need to increase seafood consumption by adding value to artisanal products. Proposed strategies include establishing processing plants, promoting local fairs, and encouraging direct trade between fishermen and consumers to reduce reliance on intermediaries that inflate prices. The group also highlighted successful pilot programs, such as those in the Atacama Region, which facilitate seafood distribution to school meal programs.
