Guatemala deploys motorcycle police unit as Honduras announces telecom amnesty

In Guatemala, the National Civil Police (PNC) has launched the Élite Motorizada, a specialized tactical unit designed to manage traffic congestion and prevent crime in the metropolitan area. Comprising 70 agents and 20 motorcycles, the unit will conduct dynamic patrols and surprise checkpoints on major routes, including CA-9 Norte and Calzada Roosevelt. Interior Minister Marco Antonio Villeda stated the command aims to improve order and prevention rather than simply increasing fines.

In Honduras, the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) has officially implemented a massive amnesty and regularization process for the telecommunications sector under Legislative Decree 172-2026. Companies have a six-month window to normalize their financial status and obtain operating licenses. Benefits include a total pardon of fines, surcharges, and interest, alongside a reduction of the gross income tax for telecommunications services to 1%. The decree also provides a pathway for illegal operators to legalize their status provided they meet technical and legal requirements.
