Conca de Barberà officials demand answers over summer power outages

Authorities in the Conca de Barberà region are seeking answers regarding frequent electricity outages that affected numerous municipalities throughout the summer. Jaume Fornés, president of the Comarcal Council, reported approximately ten power cuts starting in early June.

Local leaders, including the mayors of Montblanc and Passanant i Belltall, have met with representatives from the Generalitat de Catalunya to discuss the impact. The outages, some lasting over two hours, were exacerbated by the ‘Alfa Plan’, a fire prevention protocol that requires manual inspections of power lines before restoration to mitigate fire risks. The disruptions particularly affected businesses, commercial establishments, and agricultural cooperatives during the grape harvest season.
