CS Cartaginés and Motagua advance to Copa Centroamericana quarterfinals

CS Cartaginés and Motagua have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa Centroamericana. Cartaginés clinched the top spot in Group D after a 2-0 victory over CD FAS, fueled by a decisive goal from Giancarlo Castro and a second from Alonso Hernández. The Costa Rican side finished the group stage with eight points, edging out Motagua on a tiebreaker of fewer yellow cards despite both teams having identical points, goal differences, and goals scored.

Motagua advanced as the group runner-up following a 1-1 draw against Guatemala’s Municipal. Rodrigo de Olivera opened the scoring for the Honduran side in the 36th minute, while Erik López equalized for Municipal in the 76th minute. The result was sufficient for Motagua to progress, while Municipal was eliminated from the tournament.

CD FAS was eliminated from the competition following their loss to Cartaginés, finishing the group stage in fourth place with four points.
