Concarneau Mayor Quentin Le Gaillard placed under formal investigation

Quentin Le Gaillard, the 28-year-old mayor of Concarneau, has been placed under formal investigation for rape and sexual assault. Following a period of police custody, the Brest Prosecutor's Office announced that the mayor has been placed under strict judicial supervision. This measure includes mandatory monitoring and prohibitions against contacting the victim or visiting her residence.

The investigation stems from allegations of non-consensual sexual acts dating back to early 2026. While a report was initially filed in January, the judicial process intensified following a preliminary inquiry opened by the Quimper Prosecutor's Office in July.

Le Gaillard has firmly denied all accusations, describing them as ‘unlikely and defamatory.’ He previously characterized the encounter in question as nothing more than ‘a kiss without a tomorrow.’ He has indicated his intention to file counter-complaints for slander. Under French law, the maximum penalty for the charges could include up to 15 years of criminal imprisonment. The individual remains presumed innocent throughout the ongoing proceedings.
