Conceição Evaristo honored in Belo Horizonte's July das Pretas

The city of Belo Horizonte launched its July das Pretas program on 13 July, dedicating the month to the recognition and empowerment of Black women. Central to the schedule is a tribute to writer Conceição Evaristo, who will participate in a dialogue panel about the experiences, knowledge, and contributions of Black women to the city’s development.

The initiative, titled “Escrevivências do Bem Viver,” includes debates, cultural performances, a marketplace for artisans, and a concluding festival on 25 July at the Conjunto IAPI. Activities target municipal employees, especially cleaning staff, with a focus on self‑care and rights promotion. The program is part of the broader “BH Sem Racismo” effort to advance gender and racial equity in the municipality.
