Concepción del Uruguay commemorates birth of Justo José de Urquiza

The Municipality of Concepción del Uruguay and various local institutions held a ceremony at the ‘Talar de Urquiza’ to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the birth of General Justo José de Urquiza. The event took place at a monument located at kilometer 141 of the Autovía Artigas, marking the site where the former Argentine president was born.

The ceremony was led by Mayor José Lauritto and Vice Mayor Rossana Sosa Zitto, with participation from national deputy Marianela Marclay, senator Martín Oliva, and representatives from historical studies, educational institutions, and local community groups. The commemoration is part of a broader ‘Week of Tribute to Urquiza,’ which includes various cultural activities and is scheduled to conclude with a parade in Plaza Ramírez.

The site, which features a monolith built with local stones, was previously renovated in 2019 through a collaboration between the municipality and the 2nd Armored Engineer Battalion. The tribute highlights Urquiza’s historical role as the ‘Organizer of the Nation’ and his contributions to the institutional development of Argentina.
