Concepción del Uruguay honors General Justo José de Urquiza
Concepción del Uruguay is holding a week of tributes to General Justo José de Urquiza to mark the 225th anniversary of his birth. The initiative, titled ‘Un legado llamado Urquiza’ (A legacy called Urquiza), features guided tours through the city's historic district for more than 400 students.
Organized by the local Directorate of Culture and Tourism in coordination with the Municipal Museums and Historical Heritage department, the tours include landmarks such as Plaza Ramírez, the Inmaculada Concepción Basilica, Colegio del Uruguay, and the Casa de Urquiza. These sites hold significant status, with Plaza Ramírez designated as a National Historical Site and the other locations recognized as National Historical Monuments.
Due to high demand from local schools, additional tours have been added to the schedule. The program aims to engage younger generations with the legacy of Urquiza, who was a primary driver of the 1853 Argentine Constitution and the process of National Organization.
