Concepción del Uruguay woman loses US$64,000 in investment scam

A woman in Concepción del Uruguay, Argentina, has reported losing more than US$64,000 in a fraudulent investment scheme. The victim stated that the scam began after she responded to a Facebook advertisement for the trading platform Libertex, which promised automated investments.

According to the complaint, two individuals posing as financial advisors contacted her and guided her through various transactions using applications such as Libertex, Belo, and Fiwind. After initial successful trades built her confidence, the victim increased her investments by using personal savings and selling stocks and bonds. When the accounts began showing significant losses, the alleged advisors instructed her to deposit more funds to prevent account closure and recover her capital.

To meet these demands, the woman took out two significant loans: 16 million pesos from Banco Santander and 11.5 million pesos from Banco Nación. Following the total loss of her funds, she filed a complaint on August 27, 2025, alleging fraud and unauthorized financial intermediation. A jurisdictional dispute has emerged between the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Victoria and the Federal Court of Concepción del Uruguay regarding which venue should oversee the investigation.
