Concepción hospital investigates potential baby swap
Authorities in Concepción, Argentina, are investigating a potential baby swap at the Hospital Regional de Concepción ‘Miguel Belascuain’ after a couple discovered their newborn was a boy despite multiple ultrasounds indicating a girl.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, following an emergency cesarean section. The family reported that the infant was initially presented in pink clothing and with earrings, leading them to believe the baby was the daughter they had expected. The discrepancy was discovered hours later during a diaper change.
In response, the Judiciary has ordered DNA testing for five babies born at the hospital during the same time window. The mothers of the other four infants have voluntarily agreed to participate. The Hospital Regional de Concepción has acknowledged a failure and launched an internal administrative investigation, providing all relevant records to the authorities.
