Concón hosts 21st annual Carrera de Garzones waiter race
The 21st edition of the Carrera de Garzones (Waiter Race) took place in the Playa La Boca neighborhood of Concón, Chile, as part of the commune's anniversary month celebrations. More than 40 gastronomic workers participated in the competition, which requires contestants to run as fast as possible while balancing a wine bottle and glass on a service tray.
Winners were crowned across three distinct categories:
• Men (18 to 40 years): Lucas Gallardo took first place, followed by Javier Pérez and Patricio Niño. • Men (over 41 years): René Muller secured the top spot, with Roberto Jiménez in second and Juan Vivanco in third. • Women: Judiana Noguera won the category, followed by Pilar Catalan and Paulina Ceballos.
Prize money was awarded to the top three finishers in each category, with $190,000 for first place, $160,000 for second, and $140,000 for third. Concón Mayor Freddy Ramírez noted that the event highlights the resilience and continued operation of the local gastronomy sector despite recent climatic challenges.
