Concordia Botanical Garden works to preserve native flora

The Concordia Botanical Garden in Entre Ríos, Argentina, is implementing a project focused on the recovery and preservation of native flora from the middle and lower Uruguay River basin. The initiative aims to protect biodiversity across various ecoregions, including gallery forests, Espinal, wetlands, and grasslands, which characterize the territory shared by Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.

Gabriela Mendiburu, head of the Department of Public Space Design, stated that the garden serves as a reservoir for the region's natural heritage. A central component of the project is acting as a “seedbed” through the collection of seeds and the subsequent production of seedlings. This process supports new plantations and maintains collections of native species to prevent local extinction caused by the progressive loss of natural habitats.
