Condorito celebrated: 77th anniversary and docuseries debut at Bogotá book fair

The Chilean comic character Condorito, created by cartoonist René Ríos Boettiger (known as Pepo), marked its 77th anniversary on 6 August 2024. First published in the magazine Okey in 1949, the strip has become a staple of humor across Latin America, influencing generations and entering popular culture.

A four‑part docuseries titled “Pepo, el padre del Cóndor”, funded by the National Television Council of Chile, will screen its opening chapter at the International Book Fair of Bogotá (April 21–May 4, 2026). The event includes a conversation on Pepo’s life and legacy, organized with Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, the Arts and Heritage, ProChile and the Chilean Embassy in Colombia. The series, produced by Servicios Audiovisuales Limitada, is slated for broadcast on Canal 9 Bío Bío Televisión in Chile later in 2026.
