Condusef warns of mobile malware used in banking fraud

Wendy Pérez Ceballos, the Condusef delegate in Chihuahua, has issued an alert regarding a new banking fraud modality involving malware. These malicious programs infiltrate mobile devices to steal sensitive banking information, including passwords, PINs, and verification codes, enabling unauthorized transfers.

Criminals often initiate these attacks through SMS messages, emails, phone calls, or fraudulent links designed to trick victims into downloading malicious applications or files. Once a device is compromised, attackers may use remote access, screen overlaying, or malicious extensions to take control of the phone.

To prevent fraud, authorities recommend avoiding unexpected links, downloading applications only from official stores, and keeping operating systems and antivirus tools updated. Users are advised to verify all transactions directly through official banking apps and never share confidential credentials with third parties.
