Condusef warns of rising telephone and digital financial fraud

Financial authorities Condusef and Seproban have issued alerts regarding an increase in telephone-based financial fraud and scams. Condusef has identified nearly 5,000 phone numbers used for activities including scams, harassment, spam, and extortion.

Recent statistics show that fraud is evolving through digital tools. While older populations were previously considered the primary targets, recent data indicates that the highest increase in complaints comes from individuals aged 18 to 29 and those between 40 and 50. In the current year, over 35,000 claims have been filed, with 91% related to fraud, scams, or telephone harassment.

Common tactics include criminals impersonating bank personnel to report supposed card blocks or unauthorized movements to create a sense of urgency. Scammers may request passwords, confirmation codes, or personal data, and often use fake links or websites that mimic legitimate institutions to steal information. In some reported cases, criminals have even used fraudulent biometric data to access accounts.
