Confagricoltura and Uniceb sign beef supply chain agreement
Confagricoltura and Uniceb (Unione Italiana Filiera delle Carni) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the Italian beef supply chain and increase domestic livestock production.
The agreement aims to improve self-sufficiency in response to a decline in veal imports from France, a primary historical supplier. Currently, approximately 50% of beef produced in Italy comes from fattening animals imported from abroad, with France providing over 70% of these animals.
The partnership, signed by presidents Massimiliano Giansanti and Carlo Siciliani, seeks to establish stable commercial channels for member companies based on shared standards and objective pricing. The initiative will focus on production quality, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and the reduction of antibiotic use.
