Confapi supports permanent daylight saving time for Italian SMEs

Confapi, the Italian association of small and medium-sized enterprises, has expressed support for the adoption of permanent daylight saving time. Francesco Napoli, the organization's national vice president, stated that eliminating seasonal time changes could improve operational conditions for industrial SMEs by reducing organizational burdens in logistics, production, and IT synchronization.

Napoli emphasized that for the reform to be effective, it must be implemented through a coordinated and harmonized framework at the European level to ensure market consistency and competitiveness.

Regarding energy impacts, data from Terna suggests that daylight saving time in Italy provides an annual saving of approximately 302 million kWh, which is equivalent to the needs of over 115,000 families. This is projected to result in an economic benefit of about 80 million euros in 2026, though the relative impact of these savings is decreasing due to the widespread use of energy-efficient technologies like LED lighting.
