Confapi Taranto calls for Fincantieri to boost shipbuilding

Confapi Taranto has proposed a strategic initiative to revitalize the shipbuilding industry in Taranto, aiming to establish it as a pillar of economic diversification for the region. The organization is calling for state intervention to encourage a stable presence from Fincantieri in the city.

This proposal seeks to move the local economy away from its traditional reliance on the steel industry, which has faced significant challenges due to the crisis at the former Ilva plant. Fabio Greco, president of Confapi Taranto, emphasized that despite the city's long industrial tradition in shipbuilding, it has been excluded from recent developments seen in cities like Genoa, Trieste, and Castellammare di Stabia. The initiative aims to create new industrial synergies, training opportunities, and economic stability for the territory.
