Confcommercio Palermo launches anti-racket security project
Confcommercio Palermo has launched the ‘Imprese mai sole’ (Businesses Never Alone) project to support local entrepreneurs who have fallen victim to extortion and mafia intimidation. The initiative provides free installation of video surveillance systems in commercial premises and, when necessary, the activation of private security services.
The project is supported by the organizations Addiopizzo and Sportello di Solidarietà. Addiopizzo has committed to covering 50 percent of the costs for the businesses it assists. To qualify for the service, business owners must have filed a formal report with law enforcement, regardless of whether they are members of Confcommercio.
Patrizia Di Dio, president of Confcommercio Palermo, stated that the initiative aims to create a united front against the racket to protect the freedom of enterprise and encourage victims to report crimes to the authorities.
