Confcommercio VP warns against low-cost labor contracts

Mauro Lusetti, Vice President of Confcommercio, has warned against the use of low-cost labor contracts, describing them as a “race to the bottom.” Speaking at the Aigrim Day 2026 forum in Milan, Lusetti argued that adopting cheaper contracts to ensure business survival undermines worker rights, safety, and long-term entrepreneurial health by prioritizing labor costs over investment, innovation, and growth.

Lusetti also addressed recent regulatory developments, noting that the ‘Primo Maggio’ decree established that reference contracts must be signed by the most representative organizations and addressed the issue of fair wages. Regarding potential minimum wage legislation, he suggested that labor organizations should take responsibility for determining fair wages through self-regulation rather than relying solely on parliamentary intervention.
