Italy housing experts discuss urban regeneration and budget measures

At the ‘Comunicare l’Abitare 2026’ think tank in Rome, industry leaders addressed the future of the Italian real estate sector. Giorgio Spaziani Testa, president of Confedilizia, called for budget law measures that facilitate housing access through tax reductions and the continuation of building incentives through at least 2026.

Other experts highlighted strategic challenges, including the need for urban regeneration to repurpose abandoned industrial buildings in cities like Rome and Milan. Angelo Deiana of Confassociazioni noted that much of Italy’s residential stock was built before the 1980s, requiring modernization and the integration of artificial intelligence. Federico Filippo Oriana of Aspesi emphasized that urban regeneration and housing availability are complementary issues essential for national development.

Christian Rocchi, president of the Order of Architects of Rome, warned that urban regeneration must move beyond slogans by resolving bureaucratic obstacles that currently stall projects. Additionally, Paolo Leccese of Casa Radio advocated for a multidisciplinary approach to create an ‘Agenda for Living’ to improve citizens' quality of life amidst demographic shifts.
