Confesercenti Toscana requests postponement of 2027 winter sales

Confesercenti Toscana, through its fashion sector branch Fismo, has requested that the Tuscany Region postpone the start of the 2027 winter sales from January 2 to the end of January. Marco Rossi, regional president of Fismo Confesercenti Toscana, sent a letter to Tourism and Commerce Assessor Leonardo Marras requesting a meeting to discuss the matter.

Rossi argues that starting sales on January 2 forces small businesses to discount products that have only been on the market for a few weeks, sacrificing essential margins needed to cover rising costs. The goal is to restore the original function of sales as end-of-season clearances.

The request aligns with a national petition filed by the fashion federation with the Chamber of Deputies. Beyond the calendar, the organization is calling for a broader discussion on the challenges facing traditional neighborhood commerce, including the impact of Black Friday, continuous promotional campaigns, competition from large online platforms, and the increasing burden of warehouse inventory.
