Confeuro calls for EU and Italian aid amid Sicilian farmer protests

Confeuro, the national confederation of farmers, has expressed concern regarding protests by Sicilian farmers who have used tractors to demonstrate against rising fuel and production costs. Andrea Tiso, the national president of Confeuro, stated that high energy costs are heavily impacting the economic sustainability of agricultural businesses in Sicily and throughout Italy.

Tiso noted that while the difficulties are understood, road blockades are not a structural solution to the primary sector's problems. He called for concrete and timely interventions from Italian and European Union institutions. The president emphasized the need for greater European energy autonomy to mitigate the impact of international geopolitical crises on energy markets and urged for both immediate emergency measures and long-term strategies to protect the agricultural sector.
