Confeuro calls for protection of EU Common Agricultural Policy
Andrea Tiso, president of Confeuro (Confederation of European Farmers), has called for the protection of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) during debates regarding the 2028-2034 European budget. Tiso emphasized that the CAP must remain a fundamental pillar of the European Union to support primary sector businesses and ensure the future of the industry.
Confeuro is advocating for adequate resources that are protected and adjusted for inflation. The organization is requesting an autonomous fund with certain resources dedicated exclusively to farmers to prevent fragmentation and budget cuts that could threaten small and medium-sized enterprises.
Additionally, Tiso called for streamlined access to funding by reducing bureaucratic burdens and strengthening border and port controls. He argued that increased oversight is necessary to combat irregular imports, counterfeiting, and unfair competition from third countries that do not adhere to the same rigorous standards as European farmers.
